Dear thermalHUB member,
As part of our efforts to support the thermal community through thermalHUB.org, we have now transitioned the thermalHUB to a special ‘supergroup’ on its parent nanoHUB.org (see http://nanohub.org/groups/thermal). The reasons for this change are threefold:
(1) The nanoHUB platform offers more regular updating of middleware, bug fixes, and new features through ongoing support from the NSF-sponsored Network for Computational Nanotechnology.
(2) The nanoHUB community has now surpassed 200,000 users, thereby giving thermalHUB content much wider exposure to a scientific community that itself has much interest in thermal phenomena.
(3) A significant majority of the current content on thermalHUB involves small-scale materials and phenomena and therefore overlaps with nanoHUB content.
We have transitioned many of the existing thermalHUB resources to the new site and are now populating additional content. For example, we have launched a new Thermal Measurements Database (http://nanohub.org/resources/12052) that will provide easy access to a broad range of data contributed and rated by our community. The content on the former thermalHUB.org site will remain available through the end of this calendar year. Contributions of new resources will be made through the new site (http://nanohub.org/groups/thermal) — just tag your contribution as “thermal” for it to be included automatically in the new thermalHUB.
We are committed to making the transition as smooth as possible for our users. To access the new thermalHUB home, simply log in to nanoHUB.org (new registration is required for those without an existing nanoHUB account) and then join the new thermalHUB supergroup at http://nanohub.org/groups/thermal/join/.
The thermalHUB project has produced much community participation, with more than 5,000 users throughout the world (ten times more than projected in the original seed project). We are confident that the transition described above will enable continued growth of our capabilities and community.
